1. Who We Are

Volpora ("we", "us", "our") is a language-learning application that helps users read books and build vocabulary using AI. Our app is available on Android and iOS.

2. What We Collect

Account Data

  • Email address and name (when you register)
  • Apple ID or Google account identifier (when you sign in via OAuth)
  • Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)

Learning Data

  • Books you import or read
  • Words you save to your vocabulary
  • Flashcard review history and performance
  • Quiz answers and scores
  • Reading session duration and progress
  • Streaks and XP earned

AI Tutor Conversations

  • Messages you send to our AI tutor (Sage)
  • These are processed by Google Gemini and are subject to Google's privacy policy

Technical Data

  • Device type and OS version
  • App version
  • Error logs (crash reports via Sentry)
  • IP address (for fraud prevention)

Payment Data

  • Subscription status and tier (Free, Pro, Pro Max)
  • We do not store card numbers or payment credentials — all payments are handled by Apple App Store, Google Play, or RevenueCat

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve the Volpora service
  • To personalize your learning experience (level, language, recommendations)
  • To process AI translation and tutor requests
  • To send streak reminders and weekly summaries (only if you opt in)
  • To detect and prevent abuse or fraud
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following services solely to operate the app:

  • Google Gemini — AI translation and tutor responses (text content only)
  • RevenueCat — subscription management
  • OneSignal — push notifications
  • Sentry — crash reporting (anonymized)
  • Cloudflare — CDN, storage, and DDoS protection
  • Resend — transactional email (account emails only)

Each third party is bound by their own privacy policy and data processing agreements.

5. Data Retention

  • Your account data is retained for as long as your account exists
  • Reading sessions and vocabulary data: retained indefinitely to power your spaced repetition
  • AI tutor messages: retained for 90 days, then permanently deleted
  • Crash logs: retained for 30 days
  • After account deletion: all personal data is erased within 30 days

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of your data
  • Correction — correct inaccurate data
  • Deletion — delete your account and all associated data (see below)
  • Portability — export your vocabulary as CSV or Anki deck (Pro/Pro Max)
  • Opt-out — disable all non-essential notifications at any time in Settings

6a. How to Delete Your Account

You can permanently delete your Volpora account and all associated data at any time:

  1. Open the Volpora app
  2. Go to Profile → Settings → Account
  3. Tap "Delete Account"
  4. Confirm the deletion

Alternatively, email support@volpora.com with the subject line "Delete my account" and we will process your request within 7 days.

What gets deleted: your profile, email, reading history, saved words, quiz history, tutor messages, and all personal data.

Retention after deletion: all personal data is permanently erased within 30 days. Anonymized, non-identifiable analytics data may be retained.

7. Children's Privacy

Volpora is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it immediately.

8. Security

We protect your data using industry-standard measures: HTTPS/TLS in transit, encrypted storage at rest, and access controls limited to personnel who need it. No system is 100% secure — if you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and notify you in-app for material changes. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
