How is Volpora different from Duolingo?
Duolingo teaches through gamified exercises and isolated sentences. Volpora teaches through reading real books — you tap any word for instant AI translation, save vocabulary, and build fluency through authentic content. What is comprehensible input and does Volpora use it?
Comprehensible input, a concept developed by linguist Stephen Krashen, is language you can mostly understand with a little stretch. Volpora applies this by letting you read authentic books while instantly translating any unknown word — so input stays comprehensible and acquisition happens naturally.
What is FSRS and why does Volpora use it?
FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) is an open-source algorithm that schedules vocabulary reviews at the optimal moment — just before you're about to forget. Volpora uses FSRS instead of older systems like SM-2 because it achieves 20–30% better long-term retention for the same study time.
Is Volpora suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Beginners can start with graded readers and children's books in the app library. The AI translation removes the barrier of unknown words, so you can read slightly above your level from day one. The Sage tutor also explains grammar concepts in your native language.

Which languages does Volpora support?
You can learn English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese or Russian. The app interface is available in those ten languages plus Turkish.
What's the difference between Free, Pro and Pro Max?
Free lets you read and translate up to 30 words a day. Pro removes ads, unlocks 500 daily translations, chapter quizzes and the Sage tutor. Pro Max adds unlimited tutor chats, more learning languages and natural-sounding read-aloud.
Can I import my own books?
Yes. PDF, EPUB and TXT files all work. Pro and Pro Max users can import unlimited books; Free is limited to 3 imports per month.
Does Volpora work offline?
Reading a book that you have already opened works offline, but AI translations and the Sage tutor need an internet connection.
How does the AI tutor work?
Sage is a chat tutor that explains grammar, answers questions about what you're reading and roleplays everyday scenarios with you in your target language.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play. You can cancel any time from your phone's subscription settings — your access continues until the end of the current billing period.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app and go to Profile → Settings → Account → Delete Account. All your personal data is permanently erased within 30 days.
